With a view to defending the integrity of the national territory and the independence and sovereignty of the country, the Government of Burundi, through the National Defense Force (FDN), is relentlessly combating all armed aggression against the institutions of the Republic, and ensuring the defense and protection of the country’s strategic and vital interests. To this end, the country spares no effort in acquiring modern military equipment from friendly countries.

With this in mind, the MPs, under the aegis of the Right Honorable Gelase Daniel NDABIRABE, Speaker of the National Assembly, met in plenary session on August 25, 2023 to analyze and unanimously adopt the draft law ratifying the military and technical agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Burundi, signed in Moscow on August 15, 2022.

Burundi benefits from this agreement. Indeed, it is thanks to this agreement that Burundian military officers benefit from comprehensive academic training (216 officers have already been trained in Russia, 70 are currently being trained and 10 more will be sent this year).

Other cooperation agreements exist between the Russian Federation and Burundi in the fields of education, energy, health, agriculture, sport and culture.
